About Me

I bought my first SLR at the age of 14, getting up at 5am most mornings to do my newspaper route in order to pay for it.  Today I still own this first camera (a Nikon FE) and occasionally use it as a teaching tool for better understanding the inner-workings of a camera.  I was an avid photographer throughout my teenage years literally driving my family crazy with all my photographic experiments...  (Well, actually my parents were very supportive to the point of setting up a darkroom at home in the basement...)  I later put my camera aside to pursue a career in aerospace engineering which kept me busy for the next 15 years of my life.  I was privileged to travel a lot during my this career and traveled extensively throughout North America and Europe with stints in India and Namibia (down near South Africa...)  In fact it was during these trips that my passion for photography resurfaced.

Today I've returned to photography (though this time using digital technology...) and as it stands right now I hope to never have to put down my camera again...

My Equipment

Like many, I'm what you would call a Nikon enthusiast…  And though I believe that both Nikon and Canon are on equal footing, I've always used Nikon and therefore, over the years, I've adapted my shooting instincts to match the layout of my Nikon cameras.  I presently own a D300, a D80 and a D40x.  My main camera/lens combo is the D300 equipped with a Nikkor 18-200mm VR lens but I also rely heavily on a Tokina 12-24mm and occasionally on a Nikkor 80-400 VR lens.  And just like any other photographer I've got an endless supply of flashes, tripods, filters and so forth…

I do tend to travel light so I'm usually carrying around one camera with 2 or 3 of my lens, all of it tucked into one convenient photography backpack.  I'll also always have a spare camera body stowed away somewhere not too far in my luggage just in case the main camera runs into problems.

About This Website

I originally launched this site in 2006.  At first it was a simple HTML based gallery but I quickly realised that this would not be sufficient for the amount of work I eventually would want to display.  I therefore turned to an open source software called Gallery upon which I built this website.  After several hundred hours of customisation (OK... There was a lot of learning in there as well...) I finally ended up with what you see today.  I’m still customising it and trying to add new features but the backbone of it should remains as is for a while now.  I am a photographer after all, not a programmer ...
